USA pack baiting terms explained for the UK angler.

Pack the bait

USA anglers use the word pack, UK anglers would say squeeze. in short, pack means squeeze.

Binder

This is a group of packbait ingredients that as you may imagine help the pack to bind.
examples of this would be…   flour, panko breadcrumb,  or soya meal.

Breaker

This is a group of packbait ingredients that help to break the pack open once it is in the water.
Examples would be…   trout pellets, rolled oats, hempseed, or wheat bran.
note** Wheat bran expands to 3 times its size once wet, this realy helps  break open the pack.

Wetter

The wetter is the key to the binding process. 
Dry particles won’t pack, but adding the wetter to the particles they swell with the moisture and become packable. 
Examples would be…  creamed corn, mollasses or syrup.
note**  USA anglers rarely use water as a wetter.

The pack

This is the combination of the binder+breaker+wetter to create the ball of free offerings that surround the lead or hookbait.
note**  if your pack wont bind, add more binder. if it wont break add more breaker.

Set up

Most packs requite time for the dry ingredients to absorb the wetter and bind. They call this the “setup time”.

Forever bait

Packs made with syrup. They don’t last “forever” but will stay fresh for weeks in a bucket in the back of your car.
I only use forever baits. Just so convenient….
